President's MessageBy the time this newsletter hits your mailboxes the holiday season will be coming to a close. I hope everyone had the opportunity to take some time off and enjoy family, friends and of course, some football. The New Year brings some exciting times with our local chapter. Our education classes remain strong and our Professional Development Meetings (PDM’s) are all set for the remainder of the fiscal year. In an effort to offer the best PDM’s possible, the Space Coast Chapter of APICS has decided to make some minor changes to our schedule. Highlights of the changes are; · We are moving the February PDM from our normal second Tuesday of the month to Wednesday, February 8, 2012. We have the opportunity to get a top notch speaker, Michael Ford, CFPIM, who will bring a different kind of approach to PDM’s. Michael was at the International Conference & Expo in Pittsburgh where you had to wait in line for up to an hour early to get into his presentation called “Ice Cream Sundae Production: From Job Shop to Lean Flow”. Michael will give our chapter this presentation that compares a job shop layout to a lean flow line. We made arrangements with Michael for that date to share cost as he will be at the Orlando chapter the evening before. Not to mention we won’t be competing with Valentine’s Day. · We will be moving our April PDM one week later to April 17, 2012. This is the PDM where we are planning to visit Space Coast Stadium in Viera and learn some of the behind the scenes activities. There is also a Manatees game that evening and we invite everyone to stay for the game. The Space Coast Chapter of APICS again wanted pass along our thanks to DRS-RSTA for a very exciting, successful plant tour in November. We had a huge turnout of members and potential new members, and the DRS team went way beyond by also picking up the cost of the dinner. Our next scheduled plant tour is in March at Embraer, an executive jet manufacturer who chose Melbourne as a final assembly facility. This plant tour is planned to be a joint meeting with our friends at ISM, “The Institute for Supply Management”. Growing our membership remains an objective of our chapter. Please continue to spread the word on APICS and its educational and networking benefits. If you know someone who may be interested in becoming a member, please invite them to attend one of our upcoming PDM’s. As you can see by the highlights above we have some exciting PDM’s coming up. And don’t forget to encourage them to visit our website at WWW.SPACECOASTAPICS.org.
